They said they would get the list out this week and sure enough, the list of PS2 games that will work in the UK/ Euro PS3 is now online.
Out of the 2,451 titles currently available a total of 1,782 will work on the PS3 with the software emulation method. Sony recommends installing the v1.60 firmware update first for maximum compatibility- this will be available to the UK on March 23.
The games are listed and marked with a rating of one to three squares- three squares means no problems found, 2 means minor issues may be found while one square means the games has some "noticeable" issues. Some of the "noticeable" games include Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 3, Kingdom Hearts, Canis Canem Edit (Bully in the US), a number of the Need for Speed Titles, FIFA 07, and Pro Evolution Soccer 4,5, and 6.
Several games are not on the list at all, which means they currently will not work on the system. These include Guitar Hero I and II, Tekken Tag Tournament, Test Drive Unlimited, Black, and Hitman: Blood Money.
President of SCEE David Reeves said in a statement, "Our engineers have been working overtime, and have succeeded in delivering a significant number of playable PS2 titles for the European launch. We will be adding additional titles to this list in future firmware upgrades, but as we have made clear before, in the future our resources will be increasingly focused on developing new services and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, rather than on delivering PS2 backwards compatibility."
