 PS3 - UK Launch Numbers Break Record The tally is in and looking good for Sony. The UK launch of the PlayStation 3 has set a new record for consoles sold in an opening weekend. According to Chart Track a total of 165,000 out of the 220,000 units available are now in homes. If you look at all consoles, including handhelds, Sony now holds the number 2 spot as well. The PlayStation Portable launch sold 185,000 units during its launch back in 2005. These numbers beat out the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft's XBox 360 with 105,000 and 70,000 units, respectively.      |

 Re: PS3 - UK Launch Numbers Break Record I was just reading about this somewhere else. Finally, something for Sony to really speak up about (in a good way). Guess the delays were maybe kinda worth it in the end. Although, I wonder how many, or how few, would've sold had the console been released back in November as originally planned. |

| Re: PS3 - UK Launch Numbers Break Record If they didn't have the supply problems and could have done the worldwide launch I'm thinking they could have sold even more- this was to be one of the hot items for holiday shopping. When it got delayed it only helped the competition. |

 Re: PS3 - UK Launch Numbers Break Record I agree with you about that, Lyn. I wonder what Xmas would've been like if the PS3 had launched when it should've. Would've been proper competition between Sony and Nintendo 'cause of their consoels launching together (give or take a week or two) Now that would have been very interesting to say the least! |
