Review of Pro Evolution Soccer

The graphics for the game are outstanding except for the crowd, which are incredibly flat. All you see are the same blurred faces repeated over and over again and they are holding huge flags, which take up quite a bit of the stand. The build up to kick off looks good as the teams come out of the tunnel with the referee and linesmen in front of them. Their names then go on your side of the pitch to show where they are playing.

Generally the in-game graphics are quite sharp and on some of the pitches there are bald patches in the center circle and goalmouth area where the keeper has been diving around. There is an overall improvement over last ISS game, although the players don’t look as realistic as they do in FIFA.

The gameplay is also first-class; it moves very well, but the only problem is that when running a player down the wing with a team mate running alongside, you can’t stop moving in order to play a through ball for them because they suddenly stop with you. Controls handle nicely too, especially with the power bar for the shoot and long pass button. There are also various skills and techniques you can find out about in the manual.

It is worth mentioning that the sound effects are again the worst part of the game. The commentary is appalling and has no co-ordination with the flow of play what so ever.

The new ‘Master League’ is a real improvement and there are now 2 divisions (play up to 32 seasons), with the added strategy of having to budget for the players wages at the end of each season.

OUR PLEDGE: We promise that we have fully played 'Pro Evolution Soccer' before writing this review. The scores given above are our honest opinion and were not influenced in any way by the manufacturer or distributor of the game.
