If You Want To Get The Best Out Of The Game (via Combat Means) You Should Build Your Characters To The Following:
Vaan: Battle Mage
Vaan Is One Of The Character I Like To Leave With Gambits Off And Use Him As The Leader, Throwing Commands For Him And The Others. Why? Because He Is A Potential Fighter (good Hitpoints And Mana). Try To Get 3 Quickenings Asap For Vaan As You Should Teach Him Many Magiks For His High Mana. Moreover Have Vaan Work With The Tank, If Present, In Some Battles By Equiping Him In Heavy Class Armours To Really Deal Some Damage. Vaan, If Equiped Properly (light Armour, Sheild With Non-2h Weapon) Could Be A Tank Too.
Balthier: Gunner/healer
"healer? What On Hevens For?!" Well, Balthiers Mana Is Gone To Waste As He Is, Lets Face It, Terrorble At Magiks. Teach Him All The White Magiks Alone. As For Weaponary Use The Innitial Guns And If You Can Bombs. The Weapons May Lack Sometimes In Strength Of Attack And He May Fall Behind In Attack Power From The Rest Of Your Party. When This Occors Make Him Use Spears And Poles. Why? Its Just One Fall Back Weapon To Keep Him In The Frey. Equip Balthier With Light Armour And Have Him, In Gambits, Heal Your Party With Cure If Their Hp Falls Below 70%/curega If Their Hp Falls Below 50%.
Fran: Archer
Thats Right - Use The Bows! Also Use The Light Armours For More Hp And Faster Attacks. Fran Is Resonably Equil With Melee Weapons But She Will Cope. I Still Strongly Suggest Using A Bow As A Weapon. Fran Is Resonable With Magics, Cure Magics Should Be Applied To Her Gambits Just Like Balthier. When She Gets To A High Level (and I Mean High, 70ish High!) She Will Catch Up With Penelos Mp!
Ash: Backup Class Fighter
Like Vaan, Ash Can Be A Good Attacker Along Side A Tank Or Even Just In A All-out Frenzy. Ash Has A Good Magic Level And Should Use Some Green Magics, White Magics, And Arcane Magics. The Other Thing To Do With Her Is To Allow Her To Use The Two Handed Weapon You Will Aquire Along Your Quest Known As The Sword Of Kings. Reason Being, Dispite The Lack Of Attack Power, It Has A High Multipul Attack Chance. So, You May Hit 30 Worth Damage Some Times But You Have An Equil Chance Of Hitting 60 And Even 90 Damage In A Turn.
Basch: Tank Fighter
He Will Hurt If You Give Him A Axe And A Shield, Or A Two Handed Weapon And Let Him Rage Against The Otheres With Beserk And Haste (in That Order) He Will Kill Rapidly. Basch Has A Key If You Use Light Armour For More Hp Or Heavy Armour For Pain - Your Choice (some Say The Best Form Of Defence Is Offence, As I, So I Use Heavy Armours). Finally, Basch Is Good With Being A "spare Mp Carrier" As His Magiks Are Terrorble Too! When Your Party Is Exausted He Can Be Healing You When All Seems Down(use A Gambit, Activate This When Needed). Teach Basch Loads Of Tech. As They Dont Require Mana. I Saw The First Part Of The Game Where You See Him Kill The Imperial With A Bow, Got Me a Thinkin. So I Tryed It And, Indeed, Basch Is Good With Bows! (almost Matches Up To Fran!)
Penelo: Mage
This Is Your Mage! Penelo Is Terrorble At Everything Else! I Tell You I Thought She Was A Waste Of Party-member When I First Saw It But Give Her A Rod/staff And Some Mystic Armour With Magik Licences (all Magiks) And Let Her Tear The Enamy To Shreads! For Most Effect Get All Of Those Who Oppose You In A Group (cast Lure On Basch/vaan And Let Them Tank) Then Cast Oil To Make em All Gooey And Then Cast Fire/fira/firga On Them And Let em Burn! Penelo Can Use The Advantage Of The Elements Too. If You Get The Technique Archillies You Can Use This To Your Advantage As It Renders One Foe Weak Against An Element (2x Damage). |

Before You Go Into A Difficult Boss Fight And/or Mark Hunt Always Prebuff Your Current And Reserve Characters. The Fights Are 10 Times Easier If You Cast Haste, Bravery, Regen, And Protect On All Of Your Characters. You Could Even Cast Bubble To Double Your Hp Before The Fight.
