Guide to Rainbow Six 3 on the PlayStation 2

You have probably heard of the game Rainbow Six 3. Originally a PC game and then last year it came out as a XBOX game has now been redone for the PlayStation 2. If you have played either of these versions beforehand you will have a good idea of what to expect. If you haven’t played either version then you are in for a treat.

Tom Clancy again brings us into a world of evil terrorists taken on by a militia. Team Rainbow (not the most fearsome name for a counter terrorism squad, is it?) is called in to take them out with extreme prejudice.

As a solo player you can start a campaign that can include 15 levels. What they did for the PS2 version is offer you an exclusive level called the Trieste. This level can be played on three different levels depending on your expertise, recruit, veteran or elite. Obviously the higher the ranking the more difficult the play and again this level is only available on the PS2 version of the game.

Gamers will love the fact that Rainbow Six 3 gives a team of experts that are controlled by the computer Al but follow your commands. You will also love the fact that the multiplayer mode offers very few changes compared to the Xbox version. Playing the online version of multiplayer gives you three fighting modes with a maximum of six players. If you have played the Xbox version or the PC version then you will end up disappointed by this action, but if you are new to the game in general then it doesn’t matter, you will enjoy the PS2 version.

You are Domingo Chavez, nickname Ding, and you are the ring leader with your friends Eddie, Dieter and Louis. The four of you are sent all over the world to take care of business and get rid of the bad guys. You get to go through boot camp essentially and then you are all sent out on your first mission. Be prepared to clear a mountain village of evil terrorists and save the villagers lives. The graphics are enough to make you feel as though you are really there and ready to sneak around and sniper the bad guys.

Your Playstation band of brothers act as if they are the best killing machines that there are and that they really take care of business. Of course as all “humans” do they will make mistakes and get out gunned, call a room clear when it isn’t or blow themselves up. This makes them amazing when they are successful but entertaining when they screw up.

With Rainbow Six 3, the weapons are by far the best part of the game. The looks and sounds are as real as it can get. Your weapons include pistols, semi-automatics, machine guns, assault rifles, shotguns, and sniper rifles. Depending on the weapon you may have either telescopic view or the more accurate zoom view. Of course there isn’t a militia shooter game that would be complete without a grenade launcher, pistols and explosions galore.

So if you've got the feeling to stand up for your country and go take on "the baddies"; or if you simply feel like you need to de-stress after a hard day in the office by blowing some stuff up, then this game could be right up your alley.

"Lock 'n load, rock 'n roll!"
"Your country needs YOU!"
