THE BOUNCER

"The Bouncer is Square's attempt to invent a new genre for the PS2, and in a degree they have succeeded. Mainly a fighting game where the players can do typical button combo attacks, There is also has a heavy story influence that will move the plot along through videos and cut-scenes like no other title out there."

PS2 Review SUMMARY and SCORE
James Hacker  "This Is A Game That Is In Its Own Ranking The
Graphics Are Just Amazing. The Voice Acting Is
Better Than I Had Hoped. And The Playability Is
Awesome Thanks To The Little Diffrences In
Different Charectors. The Main Problems That I
Ran Into Is The Length Of The Game, And The
Battle Control. I Found That It Was Hard To Hit A
Specific Enemy When They Were All Around You.

Overall This Is A Game That Will Be Good For
Years To Come."

Michael Stojanovic  "I Think That You Should'nt Really Knock The Bouncer I Mean It Is A Squaresoft Game Afterall And It Is Their First Attempt At Combining Different Types Of Game Play Toghether And I Also Think That They Have Done It Quite Well To Be Honest, I Must Admit It Is Kind Of Annoying When You've Completed A Short Fight And You Then Have To Save Straight Away Afterwords But Saying That You Might Never Know What Will Happen When The Next Fight Comes Along. I Also Like The Versus Mode Which Can Be More Satisfiying Than Arcade Mode. All I Am Saying Is If You Think That It Is Worth A Try I Suggest You Rent It First You Never Know You Might Like It, Because For Me It Is Quite An Addictive And Enjoyable Game When You Get Into It"

Badboy 3223  "This Was One Of The First Ps2 Games I Bought And Boy Did I Make A Mistake.
Yeah The Game Has Good Graphics And All But The Gameplay Is Weak And The Last Abillity Sucks!
The Game Just Seems Like A Big Cg Movie Almost. I Think There Is More Cg Time Than There Is Fighting Actually.
I Got To Sick And Tired Of The Story To Quickly Because You Would Have To Play 3 Diffrent Characters And See Basically There Veiw Point Through That One Adventure. It Would Have Been Nice When You Pick A Diffrent Character You Would Go On A Diffrent Adveture Enstead Of Seeing Those Tiring Cg's Over And Over And Over Again. Even Thought There Is A Option To Skip The Cg You Would Have To Watch It Just To See If There Is Something Diffrent That Time You Picked A Diffrent Character.
Well You Will Think This Game Is Really Cool At First With Its Great Graphics And Character Design Also There Futuristic Clothes But Then It Will Get Boaring.
I Sold The Game To Some Idiot For $20.
I Have To Give Squaresoft Credit For The Grahics And Lovely Chracter Design But I Think They Should Have Saved These Characters For Final Fantasy 12 Or Something. That Would Have Been A Good Move. Also Sqauresoft Needs To Stick To Rpgs!!!"

Tsuro Hayabusa  "This Game Is Very Good. Although It Is Not A Game That Can Last You For All Eternity, It Is Still A Good Game. Lips Were In Perfect Sync, Background Music (although Repedative At Times, "the Escape") It Is Still A Worthwhile Game.

The Fighting Is Fun Although It Was Missing The Good Old Streets Of Rage Throwing Them Into Each Other.

Good Graphics, Good Gameplay, Good Music And Sound. Well Done Square!"

PS2 Review SUMMARY and SCORE
Tom Rooney  "The Bouncer Was Truly One Of The Most Hyped Titles To Date To Come Along For The Ps2. As Things Normally Go, The Game Could Not Possibly Live Up To All Of The Advance Expectations.

Taking Its Cue From The Final Fight School Of Games, The Bouncer Attempts To Open Up A Whole New Genre In Fighting Titles With Its Story Driven Cut Scene Gameplay. On Many Parts Is Succeeds. The Story Keeps Things Moving Along Nicely And The Cut Scenes Are Expertly Interwoven Into The Actual Gameplay. Unfortunately There Is A Bit Too Little Fighting And A Lot Too Much Story Telling. A Better Balance Would Have Made Things A Fair Deal More Interesting. Still, It's A Decent First Attempt.

As You Build Up Your Characters You Can Learn A Good Deal Of Regular And Super Moves, Some Of Which Look Really Cool When Executed. The Fighting Engine Is A Pretty Competent One, But Again It Is Rather Simple. I Was Also A Bit Disappointed That The Backgrounds Weren't At All Interactive As There Weren't Any Weapons Or Objects To Pick Up To Use During A Fight And Nothing Could Be Broken Up Or Damaged.

The Graphics On The Other Hand Are True Showcase Material. Dream Factory Really Pulled Out The Stops Here With Highly Textured And Realistically Modeled Characters, Great Use Of Special Effects Like Motion Blurring And Field Of View Tricks And Superb Game Engine Cut Scenes. The Sound Is Also Spectacular With The Game Possessing The Rights To Be Being The First Console Title To Feature Full Dolby Digital Support During The Cut Story's. I Can't Tell You What A Pleasure It Was To See The 5.1 Dolby Digital Display Come Alive On Our Test Receiver During The Gameplay.

Overall, This Is A Pretty Good Game With A Great Concept…it Just Needed To Be Executed A Bit Better. Hopefully Dream Factory Will Learn From This Title And Come Out With A More Overall Polished Bouncer 2 Title."

Stevie Vincent  "Oh My Goodness... What Went Wrong Here ?

After Playing The Pal Version Of This Game Through From Start To Finish In 2 Hours (on My Very First Try) I Have To Say This Was A Little Like Opening My Christmas Presents Only To Find There Is Nothing Inside And That The Box Was The Gift.

A Wonderful Story, Amazing Graphics (although The Lip-sync Is Very Poor In Stages No Matter If The Voiceovers Are Set To English Or Japanese), But So Little Gameplay That Its Hard To Believe This Was Made By The Very Highly Respected Game Developer 'square'; Of Final Fantasy Fame.

Think Of This Like A Good Movie And Rent It For The Weekend."

PS2 Review SUMMARY and SCORE
Joe Shnap  "The Graphics Are The Only Thing Worth Buying This Title. The Gameplay Is Very Cheap Because When Attacked By Multiple Enemies You Can't Protect Your Back. There Is Probably About Twice As Many Cinematics Than Actual Gameplay And If You Don't Switch Characters Often, When You Try To Level Up Your Weak Characters, You'll Have To Go Through The Game A Few Times Just To Max That Guy Out. The Storyline Is Fairly Boring And You'll Want To Skip It All. If You Skip All The Movies And Just Play You Can Beat The Game In Less Than An Hour Which Is Just Too Easy. When You Die It Is Very Time Consuming Because You Have To Restart To The Intro Movie And Then You Have To Load Your Game A Whole Nother Time.

If You Like Looking At Beautiful Graphics Than This Is The Game For You, But If You Want A Solid Fighting Game Than You Probably Want To Get A Better Game Like Doa2, Or Tekken Tag."

Ben Naraine  "Wow! I Have Rented This Game For Only 6 Days And Already I'm Missing It. The Graphics Are The Best I Seen Yet For My Ps2. The Sound Could Only Be Cd Quaility Since It Matches The Graphics To The Voices And The Gameplay. Speaking Of Gameplay It Is However Short It Took Me A While At First, But In No Time I Could Win It In 2 Hours. I Would Never Buy The Game But, It Is Worth A Rental!"

PS2 Review SUMMARY and SCORE
Nick P  "The Bouncer Is Supposed To Be One Of The Ps/2's Early Attempts At Making A Vibrant New Fighting Game. I'll Believe The Early Part.

The Graphics Are Very Good, Albeit Nothing Special These Days. The Gameplay Graphics Are On Par With The Cut-movie Scenes, Which Give Us Fairly Realistic Bouncers To Move About And Pummel. The Scenes Are Also Artistically Done, Though I Was Very Disappointed That They Could Not Be Manipulated. Even In The Old Sega Hit Streets Of Rage You Could Pick Up And Throw A Pipe; I Felt Something Close To Shock When I Found I Couldn't Pick Up Or Even Move A Chair Sitting Right In The Middle Of The First Fighting Scene.

This Brings Us To The Game's Weak Points. Graphically, It's About As Advanced As Anything Out There. As Far As Gameplay Goes, I'd Rather Have My Old 2600. Or Pong. I Rented This With A Friend, And The Box Said "2 Player Rpg". This Is Somewhat Misleading, Since The Side-scrolling Ass Kicking Is Limited To One Player, And The Only Multiplayer Is An Exceedingly Lame Brawling Environment.

It Doesn't Help That The Fighting Mechanism Is Limited To: High, Medium, Low, Jumping, And 'special Attacks' Which You Buy When You Garner 'bouncer Points'. There Are No Real Latter-day Combos, Though Mashing The Buttons Will Give You Added Animations. As I Said, There Aren't Even Any Pipes Or Knives To Throw. The Result Is Simply Wading Through Guys Pounding On The Buttons: Basically Identical To Streets Of Rage, But Somehow Less Satisfying.

The Lack Of Satisfaction Might Be Explained By The Game's Music Track And Sounds. As We Readied Our Snacks, We Let The Game Intro Play. "so How Does It Look?" "well, The Intro's Kind Of Stupid. And The Sound Blows." Oh, Does It Ever Blow. It Blows Harder Than A Blowfish Hooked Up To A Hair Dryer. We're Offered Generic 60 Second Or So Looping Sound-effect-wrought Tracks That Was Probably Done On A 486 With A Broken Midi Input. The Beat-down Sound Effects Are As Hollow As The People Who Made This Game And Took My Money.

This Game Is A Steaming Pile. Leave It On The Shelf, Or You May Find That Writing A Review For It Is More Fun Than Actually Playing It And You Too Will Let Your Friend's Kid Brother Take Your Place At The Controls. Whoever Thought This Was A Salable Product Should Be Gutted And Killed. And Now Even The Kid Brother Is Bored.

What A Waste."

(charlieaytemiz)  "This Game, Although Short, Proves The Power Of The Playstation 2's Emotion Engine Which Give The Players Beautiful Effects. The Graphics Are Just Stunning And The Controls Are Simple And Have Variable Moves. But The Storyline Although Strong And Understandable, Is Very Short I Mean You Can Finish It Your First Go In 30 Minutes If You Wanted To. So The Overall,
*good Graphics
*short Game."
