| | | | | Paul Andre "This Game Rocks....you Know You're In For A Treat From The Point The Title Screen Boots Up. It Was Like Watching A Speedvision Recap Of The Entire Season Of Rallying. If You Are Into World Rallying You Will Love This Game. Forget Gt3....this Gives You A Better Authentic "rallying" Experience.
Controls Are Good, And I Believe Comparable With Colin Mcrae 2.0.
The Sound Is Spot On Realistic. Music In Replay Is Great If You Like Techno Type Music. Especially The Title Music Which I Believe Is Taken From Real Coverage Of The Wrc As Seen On Speedvision.
Graphics Are Incredible...especially Some Of The Helicopter Views And In Car.
My Only Issues With The Game Are As Follows:
1) The Damage Model Is Seriously Messed Up. To This Point I Only Have Had Any Serious Damage From Nailing The End Of A Guardrail At 95 Mph Head On (the Type Of Collision That Even The Jaws Of Life Won't Get You Out!). Any Other Contact With Obstacles Pretty Much Goes Unnoticed And You Drive On As Usual. Also There Is Very Little Representation Of Damage Done To The Car After Even Some Of The Worst Collisions Like A Multiple Roll Over Or Driving Off A Cliff (some Bent Bumpers And Cracked Wind Screens. I Had An Occasion Where I Jumped Off A Big Hill And The Car Landed Perpendicular To The Ground End Over End, And This Caused No Damage (but Looked Cool).
2) The Car Is Repaired After Each Stage...none Carries Over To The Next.
3) The Car Set Up Is Very Simplistic, And As Long As You Pretty Much Stick With The Default Settings It's Fine. Not Much To Experiment With.
4) The Times You Race Against On Easy And Normal Skill Level Really Provide No Competition....i Am 50 Points Ahead At The Season Midpoint So Far. I Am Hoping The Professional Level Gets More Serious Where I May Not Win The Whole Championship.
5) Some Course Descriptions Are Read Out Way Too Late After You're Already On Top Of A Critical Turn.
6) The Time Limit Applied To Being Off Course....outside Of The Course More Than 3 Seconds And Bam You're Returned To The Track.
Other Than That I Love This Game, And Anticipate That If There Is A Second Version These Will Be Fixed Up Nicely.
Right Now, This Is The Best Rally Game For The Ps2...you Will Not Be Disappointed If You Are Into Rallying As A Sport...they Have Captured A Lot Of What Goes Into The Experience." | Graphics 15/20

I'm Sorry To Break It To You, But Game Designers Aren't Out There Making Games Tailored To Your Specific Tastes And Specifications. It That's What You Want Then You Should Make Games For Yourself. This Game Was Made To Look Realistic, Which I Think It Does An Excellent Job Of - Using A Blur Effect Instead Of A Mist/fog To Bring Things Off In The Distance Into Clear View Is An Awesome Effect And Looks More Realistic Than The Majority Of Other Race Games. Also The Environments Were Done Beautifully And Really Convey A Realistic Feeling That You Are Racing Out On The Top Of A Mountain, In The Desert, Etc... The Replays Are Great, Especially From The Helicopter View Which Also Looks Extremely Realistic.
As For The Gameplay, I Admit It Is Fairly Arcade-like, But That Is The Point. This Game Was Not Supposed To Be Gran Tourismo Rally. The Gameplay Is Great For What It Is - - A Fun Game That You Can Pick Up And Learn In A Sitting, With Graphics And Courses That Keep You Coming Back And Playing More. For Everyone Complaining About Damage Effects, Why Even Bring It Up? Why Not Start With Just About Every Other Racing Game Out There That Has Licensed Vehicles. Do Cars In Gran Tourismo Sustain Damage After Hitting A Steel Barrier Wall At 200+ Mph? Yeah I Didn't Think So. Unless You Consider Tire Wear As Car Damage - And If That's The Case, Then Yeah I Guess You Got Me.
For Everyone Thinking About Whether They Should Pick Up This Game Or Not, I Would Recommend Renting First, As I Would With Any Other Game Due To The Fact That Everyone's Tastes And Likes And Dislikes Are Different. However, If You Enjoy Racing Games In General (hardcore Sim And Arcade-style), I Think You Will Really Like This Game And Will Have A Great Time Playing For Months To Come." | Graphics 15/20

The Stages Are Not Really Imaginative At All And All 14 Countries Feel And Drive The Same, Graphically It Looks Impressive But Drives Like An A Reg Ford Escort...not Very Well. You Would Expect To Be Eating Dirt And Feeling The Wind In Your Hair At 106mph, Not In This Game, You Have Time To Do The Dishes And Then Come Back And Still Be Half Way Up The Road...it Is Very Slow. For The First 10 Countries, It Is Possible To Keep Your Foot On The Accellerator All The Way. And For The Number Of Stages, 5 In Each That Last 5km........wooooo....not. Lets Have More Use Of The Dvd Disk...push It To 10 Per Country, A Bit Like Cmr2.

When Driving At Normal Level (there Is Novice, Normal And Expert) I Had Expected Some Resistance, But I Was Able To Drive Off The Road For Most Of The Time And Still Set Best Time. Also When Driving Rally It's About Tight Turns And Using The Breaks Right. Not In This Game. I Was Able To Make Most Turns Going Full Speed, And When Making U-turns Using The Handbreak It Was At Speeds Not Under 100 Km/h In 3. Gear!!! That's Not Realistic.... Also When Going Full Speed In 6. Gear I Didn't Feel Like Driving At 180 Km/h But More Like 80 (never Felt The Speed). Ie. If The Co-driver Said 50, 3 Right (means In 50 Meters A Right Turn) It Took 3 Seconds Before The Turn. It Takes Less Than 1 Second When Going 180 In Real Life.
For Those Of You Who Knows The Dif. Between V-rally 2 And Colin Mcrea 2. This Game Is Like V-rally 2 With Better Graphics.
I Would Choose Coling Mcrea 2 For Ps1 Over This One At Any Time. The Only Thing Better Is The Graphics (because It's Ps2). Also The Replay Looks Good But What Is That Good For When It's Not Fun Driving.
