Guide to Tomb Raider Anniversary on the PlayStation 2

When we look back 10 years ago at the first Tomb Raider it is starting to look dated. Now we look at Tomb Raider Anniversary on the PS2 and think “WOW!” The content is amazing. The acrobatic gameplay is challenging yet exciting and Lara is so much sexier than before.

What more could we want from Tomb Raider Anniversary?

Keeping the same theme as the first Tomb Raider, in Tomb Raider Anniversary on the Playstation2 Lara is hunting for the Scion of Atlantis. She starts in her Mansion wth a great training session that quickly teaches you all of her acrobatic moves.

Next you are off to ancient tombs, cities that have once been forgotten in Greece, Peru and Egypt, to name a few, experiencing near death encounters with your henchmen. The experience is bigger, the environments larger; and with all the new content, it feels like a game on its own and not a remake.

To master the controls of Tomb Raider Anniversary for the Sony PS2 will take you about half an hour, and what makes this game unique from the first game is the gameplay itself.

Lara is agile; she always has been. Her proficiency from ledge to ledge and swinging on horizontal bars and ropes are incredible. She can easily maneuver to dodge threats, leap from vertical poles, let alone balance on them gracefully.

Performing her acrobatics on the Playstation 2 is hardly difficult, because you have ample time to select those prompts before she dies trying. What makes Tomb Raider Anniversary PS2 realistic is the fact that if her acrobatics are not performed at the right time a lot of injury or even death could be her outcome.

It all depends what damage Lara is able to take, and by judging that you will be able to tell exactly how long she will live as a character each time. For instance, if Lara gets shot, you will have ample time to perform your acrobatics and retaliate. However, if she falls from a high ledge, that will be the end of her.

The best thing is to make sure you don’t get caught in a hail of bullets and depend on your acrobats to get you out of it. She cannot move faster than a bullet.

Health packs are found everywhere on the game, but use them sparingly, because you will need it later for serious wounds compared to just minor ones.

Compared to the first T.R, Tomb Raider Anniversary on the Sony Playstation2 has evolved into something much greater. The settings are sharper and the environment is much clearer. This is thanks to using the same graphics engine for Tomb Raider: Legend, which was also produced by Crystal Dynamics. The puzzles on the Sony game can be quite involved and there will be a couple that will take you over 60 minutes to solve.

This is what makes Tomb Raider Anniversary PS2 so great. You can explore for endless hours and then magically find an entrance to another room … only to find your character face-to-face with a T-Rex.

One has to admit after playing Tomb Raider Anniversary or attempting it that this time round it has to be the greatest Lara Croft game ever!
