Guide to WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 on the PlayStation 2
WWE Smackdown v.s. Raw 2007 has brought somewhat a change in the controls compared to previous titles – moving most of the play to the analog stick. This allows for players of the previous WWE games to still pull off their favorite moves, while many new moves have also been incorporated into the game. This means a significant amount of wrestling action has been added to your arsenal. Though the new change may take those that are familiar with the series some time to get used to, it actually works very well and adds a lot to the enjoyability of the game.
The arenas in which you fight in have also been improved – now modeled in very high detail. This has increased the interactivity of the game, allowing you to fight in the crowd or throw your opponent into the commentator's table etc. There is also a lot more interactivity with what you can use against your opponent – you can smash his head into a staircase, or grab a fan's sign to add to the fight. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 is now really feeling like a wrestling match – fans even interact with your character, just like in a real match. The Camera angles have also been improved from the previous games, and are much more cinematic than before.
WWE Smackdown v.s. Raw 2007 offers you eight exhibition modes – single, tag team, fatal four-way, triple threat, main events, handicap, royal rumble and title match. There actually isn't any other sports or fighting game that offers you that much variety. Within the exhibition modes you also have more options : Backstage Brawls, Last Man Standing, Hell in a Cell and many more.
For WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007, the General Manager (GM) option has been greatly improved. This is a very neat option – although, to be played when you have the time. Here you have the ability to manage the whole ordeal – including the ability to hire writers for improved storylines, send superstars to different brands, edit superstar tactics and set the champions. As an added feature, you can hop into a match at any time and do the wrestling yourself. The whole time, the big man of wrestling Vince McMahon is rating you, and you can check with him at any time to know if you rock or suck. The GM option is definitely a nice touch!
The Create-A... modes return this year as well!
First off is the Create-A-Wrestler mode which gives you what seems like hundreds of possible combinations to create that perfect imaginary superstar; or yourself.
The Create-A-Title mode basically does exactly what it says on the tin. It lets you create your own WWE title. You then purchase the title, allowing you to actually compete in matches for it.
The final Create-A... mode is the Create-A-Stable mode which allows you to create Tag Teams of two or more wrestlers. You can create the name of the stable (like Evolution if you put Triple H, Ric Flair, Dave Batista and Randy Orton back together again) or just come up with your own unique name. You can then choose which entrance video and music you want to come on when your wrestling group heads down to the "squared circle".
In order for your new tag-team to work effectively together, you are able to use experience points earned via Career Mode and up the stats of your team. In order to up these stats, you must have gained sufficient experience points with ALL your stable members. If just one member of your tag-team doesn't have enough experience points, then you will NOT be able to increase your teams co-operative stats.
The graphics and visuals have greatly improved in this new release compared to previous releases. The characters are now incredibly detailed, and have realistic emotive facial expressions as well. The developers have even added a 'sweat system,' adding some realism to the way the characters look by the end of a match. With the added graphics and interactivity has come some significant realism and detail as far as the arena and other characters (fans, commentators) of the game is concerned.
As far as the wrestling line-up is concerned, WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 for PS2 is slightly behind on the times. This is a drawback to the game, especially for those who are serious wrestling fans. But otherwise WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2007 is the best installment in the series, a fantastic Playstation 2 title with plenty of sarcasm and action you expect from WWE.
