The Story so Far...

Space…the final frontier…these are the never-ending voyages of the star ship Enterprise. It's ongoing mission; to seek out alien life and have sex with them…

Oh wait, that was Captain Kirk's philosophy. Activision's soon to be released space shooter Star Trek Invasion is actually based on the Next Generation Star Trek universe…So I guess Captain Picard would say "It's ongoing mission; to seek out alien life and bore them to death with long drawn out conversation". Yeah…that's better.

Anyway, after 5 years of existence the Playstation is finally about to receive its very first Star Trek title and it looks like it may be a real winner.

Delving into the game we here at API immediately discovered two things. First of all the game looks absolutely gorgeous. The space backgrounds and the detailed space ships really stand out from most typical shooters. The amount of colors and special effects being in Invasion Truly rival some of the best work graphically done on the Playstation to date.

Gamers are going to be treated to realistic looking starships, wonderful lighting effects and breathtaking battle scenarios as they progress through this game.

The second thing we noticed is that this game is not going to be a cake walk. Just getting through the training mission in the allotted time was almost enough to make us throw down our controllers in disgust. And if I have to hear Worf's voice telling me one more time to try the training mission again I think I am going to go ballistic!

Once you get past the training mission though gamers will be able to appreciate the work that has been put into this title. Flying out to the Neutral Zone and taking out some Romulan vessels in the next mission should be enough to make you forget all about that nightmare first mission.

The battle scenes are really a sight to behold and taking down your first Borg Cube should be enough to yank any self respecting gamers and hold you down for the duration of the ride.

Since this was just a beta copy of the title I really can't get too upset about the handling but as it stands right now the analog controls for the ships are way too sensitive. I had to repeatedly resort to the digital pad to get my ship under control and even then things were a bit touchy. Hopefully this will get ironed out before the final version of the game is actually released.

Overall it appears that we are getting a truly good Star Trek game here and Trekkers everywhere can rejoice and thrill at the thought of being able to pilot a star ship in a simulation that looks like it may actually be worth the price of admission. "Make it so!"
