Defining Characters
  • Who are the gaming characters that stand out for you on the playstation platforms?

I was gonna make this a poll - but there are too many to choose from!!!
  • Solid Snake - Metal Gear Solid games
    Crash Bandicoot - Crash games
Spyro the Dragon - Spyro games
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider games
  • Cloud Strife- Final Fantasy 7
    Sora - Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2
    Kos Mos - Xenosaga
  • I agree with ALL of them stated so far. Although, you did forget the likes of Aeries (Aerith) from FFVII, oh and obviously Sephiroth, in fact the whole crew from FFVII. Also, Tidus and Yuna, among others, from FFX and FFX-2. You know what how about we just say practically every characters in the Final Fantasy series from FFVII up to, and including, FFX-2 (or FFXII for those lucky b******s out there who have that game).
Er, maybe should say Gran Turismo games in general. Can't really pick out a character unless you choose one of the cars of course  But GT has pushed the boundaries further than any other racing games each time a new Gran Turismo has been released. Sony certainly lead the way when it comes to redefining the Racing genre, don't you think so?
I could possibly think of some more examples, but can't think of anything right now.
Oh GTA games, redefining the er, actually what genre would the GTA games come under?
  • Going by platform i would have to say (keeping in mind that at the time their games were PlayStation exclusives):

PSOne- Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Cloud, Lara Croft,

PS2- Jak, Ratchet, Solid Snake, Yuna

    PSP- Daxter, Death Jr.

One that covered all Sony platforms, to me, is Sweettooth from the Twisted Metal games.
  • Speaking of GT...... I would like to see a picture of and arta nsx or something like that.

Or maybe even the evil clown from the twisted metal series.
  • I would say the defining motor from GT would either be a Skyline (in your choice of the yellow Pennzoil, Orange Zexel or Blue Calsonic schemes) or the Red Playstation Viper.

Another choice of motor would be the Rhino tank from GTA world....
  • Ah yes, Gt would be your department Rory. Especially since you used to be the Gran Turismo forum's specialist way back when. Lol, remember when we had the specialists, Punkbuddy was FF, Juggleknot was something, and you were the gran turismo.

The Calsonic Skyline would be a great choice, btw.
  • I always felt Jin from Tekken was a pretty good 'logo' character.
And what's his face- Dante- from DMC

The final fantasy characters also are very dear to me, can't say that I connected as well to Sora or that guy in Dark Chronicle.

    mmmmmmmmmmmmm skyline

    I would go with

    Lara croft
    A monster from Silent Hill
    Solid snake
    Spyro
  • I can't believe no-one has gone for Resident Evil. That poor little Nemi guy, he only wanted his STARS

    Lara Croft
    Harry Mason
    Claire & Leon
The Devil & Angel car from Ridge Racer Series
    Space Marine - Quake 2
    Snnnnnnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!!!!
    Ebony & Ivory
  • Mike, it was so long ago that I forgot that I was once the GT specialist. That says a lot about something, but I am not sure what that something is.... :o
  • Hands down it would have to be Solid Snake. He has been on every version of the Playstation. I also agree with everyone who mentioned the GT series, that game has pushed the boundaries every time.

You could also say that about the GTA series, the Ridge Racer series, FIFA series, er and Tomb Raider series (although can't remember if any Tomb Raider games were released for PSP )
  • Sorry, but this thread cannot disappear without mention of Jax & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank.

Those 4 characters right there, for me, define my PS2.
  • Duke Nukem in Time to Kill on the PSX gets an honorable mention. Gotta love the one liners ie "Like a good cigar and a bad woman" & "Ooh snicketty snacks" etc. TTK also IMO has the best intro music "The thing I hate" by Stabbing Westward. Thought I'd mention this as I'm listening to it now.

Lara Croft defines PSX IMO as TR2 was the first title I bought. Snake also is up there too along with Spyro.

On the PS2, Ratchet and Clank top the bill. Lara didn't stick out this time in Angel of Darkness (no pun intended ;)). Tommy Vercetti is up there too in Vice City.
  • How about Cryptosporidium 137 (sounding an awful lot like Jack Nicholson). Who says retro can't be fun. Also God of War. Survival horror style meets Tomb Raider. Kratos is intense. Also those sticky little balls that end up rebuilding the cosmos. The Katamari games are pretty wacky.
  • My daughter said to mention Spyro too.

Howdy, Stranger!
