Guide to God Of War 2 on the PlayStation 2

God of War 2 is a third-person action adventure set in Greek mythology for the Sony Playstation 2 Console. It has, much to critical claim, exceeded what made the first title (God of War I) popular – most especially in game play, weapon options, graphics, atmosphere, and pretty much everything. Although, at the same time, it has not lost what made the first game such a success.

God of War 2 is not for the faint hearted (getting an M rating for violence) but the violence does add to the storyline.

In God of War 2 you play Kratos, a god with a temper... and now the new god of war (from the first game.) His bloodthirsty antics land Kratos in trouble with the big man of Greek gods himself – the king of Olympus - Zeus. By banishing Kratos to Hades, among other things, Kratos needs to acquire some allies (Zeus' old enemies, the Titans) new magic and weapons as he works himself to getting his revenge and re-establishing himself as the meanest guy in mythical history.

God of War 2's atmosphere is brilliantly done, due to the excellent graphics, music, voice acting, storytelling and non-stop action. All of these factors contribute to make a very believable (and complex) world, along with very believable characters.

The graphics and animations are amazing in this PS2 game - seamless and natural - the developers having paid attention to details in every aspect.

The orchestral background music also enhances the atmosphere, giving the right mood for whatever it is you're doing throughout at that time, and allowing you to really 'get into it.' The voice acting, as well, is top notch – with a host of more characters that come through very strongly during your quest.

The camera angles used in God of War 2 works very well – although a fixed camera, it never puts you in an awkward viewing position. In fact it does the very opposite - always putting you in the heat of the action with the ability to see everything that is happening, needs to happen, and is about to happen (to you) if you don't react with some brains and brawn.

Combat is the main feature of God of War 2 on PS2, with new features from the first title in the series. These come in the form of more weapon choices, more combo's and moves, more magic, and more big bad bosses to fight throughout the game.

You'll be up against some very prolific mythical gods, goddesses, and creatures. The sub-weapon choices you have in God of War 2 also each offer a lot of flexibility and originality, which are also upgradeable, offering a host of extra moves.

Replayability is fun too – as you are allowed to keep your upgrades (if you want) and replay the game, offering a different experience the second, third, fourth and more, time around.

The size of the levels are also considerably larger in God of War 2 on PS2. 'Massive' is actually a better word to describe the levels.

Although God of War 2 focuses mainly on action, the adventure element comes through strongly here – not just because you are soaring or hacking your way through a massive world - but also because of the puzzles placed throughout. The puzzles further enhance its playability and atmosphere, giving you a great all-rounder action adventure.

God of War II is certainly the best you can get for the PS2, and comes with consistently high critical acclaim for it's enjoyability and detail.
