Guide to Kingdom Hearts Re Chains Of Memories on the PlayStation 2

Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories is the PS2 remake of a title that was initially released on the Gameboy Advance platform. Since the game is set to land on a different platform, the developers have decided to tweak the game a bit to offer the PS2 gamers something new to get their hands on. However, expect Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories to deliver the same level of winning gameplay formula and excitement that has made the Kingdom Hearts franchise one of the most popular gaming franchises in the industry.

If you are a long time fan of the Kingdom Hearts saga, then you couldn't afford to miss the transition of Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories into the 3D realm. Indeed, it is a title that you need to have if you want to experience the innovative combination of the Final Fantasy-like world and the use of Disney characters into one title. If you liked previous KH titles and wanted to experience more of the series, or you were disappointed with the previous iterations, then you can get rid of any previous misconceptions and approach the gameplay for Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories with a fresh perspective as there are quite a few changes incorporated into this one.

Let's kick things off with how the story unveils in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories. It follows the events succeeding the latest adventure embarked on by Sora, Donald, and Goofy. As with the previous games off the KH series, you must control Sora as the main character. You must take him and his friends into a series of explorations in various dimensions there are in this game. Pretty soon, a dark figure shows itself up to Sora saying that he must embark on a new adventure in an effort to find something.

That will then propel the next adventure of these characters in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories. Their first stop is the Oblivion Castle and upon entering the castle, all characters quickly unlearn everything they had and are forced to learn the rules of the Cards. We will try to discuss how you can use these cards a bit later, but Sora's explorations to find his lost friends will begin to threaten the world he has traveled on, including how own homeplace. There is a connection with the story elements in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories and the previous titles released off the franchise. In fact, it ties up the gap between the original Kingdom Hearts title and Kingdom Hearts 2. therefore, this is really something that loyal fans of the series can enjoy.

However, this is not merely a continuation of the explorations that the character had in the previous games since the combat system has been somewhat changed. You are given a stack of cards that you can cycle using both R1 and L1 buttons. If you want to use a given card, simply press X. Each of these cards can be used for various purposes such as healing, summoning allies, or executing a Keyblade attack. You must use this card during battle with enemies in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories. However, beware of running out of cards as refilling them can take time, and this is detrimental when you are in the middle of an ongoing battle as it puts you at a clear disadvantage.

The card system introduced in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories is quite extensive and will need a bit of getting used to in order to familiarize yourself with it. The cards in your possession will be inserted into a deck of cards and so does your enemy. Each card is represented by a number value, ranging from 0 to 9. Those numbers will NOT represent the intensity of your attack with an enemy, instead it determines how successful you will be in trying to hit an enemy. This might seem complicated to begin with but as we've already said, the card system for Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories needs some getting used to.

Here's how Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories' card system works. For instance, your card is numbered 8 while your enemy's card is 6. This means that if you try to hit the enemy, you can certainly land a hit because you got the higher numbered card. If both of you had the same numbered card, the hit will be deflected. If your enemy's card is higher, then they'd be able to counter your attack and most likely defeat you for that given round.

At the start of this card battle system in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories, you might seem uninvolved but intensity starts to pick around the middle and things become more interesting when you fight the more difficult enemies such as the bosses. This time around, you need to include strategy into the card battle system as the bosses can be unforgiving if you did not choose the right card.

As I've already mentioned, the cards in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories serve varied purposes and you need to determine the different types of cards available in order to recognize those. First, there's the friend-based cards with the images of either Goofy or Donald; these are the ones that are used to execute magic attacks. Next, the Disney-themed cards are used to summon spells. Lastly, the Heartless cards are also known as key cards because they are used to open castle doors so you can advance through your explorations in Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories.

Overall, Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories managed to retain the same gameplay elements (save only for the newly introduced card system) and story that was known of the previous Kingdom Hearts titles. One other striking change though with Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories is the replacement of the 2D graphics into 3D. It provided a new perspective for this PS2 title and really helped in improving the presentation of this game. All the wonderful detailed environments and the solid character design remains intact for Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories. And while this isn't the most visually impressive game out there in the market, it does not offer any issues in the visual aspect of the game to reduce satisfaction of the experience.

Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories was excellent in the sound department though, especially in rendering the voices of the characters. Plus, the soundtrack and the musical effects of the game where able to transport the player into the 3D realm of Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories. This is truly one aspect of the title that has added the charm that will attract fans to go and grab this one.

If you're a PS2 gamer and have been wanting to experience a simplistic combat that still provides a rewarding experience, then Kingdom Hearts RE Chain of Memories will satisfy your gaming needs. Priced only at $30, this is proving to be quite a steal, especially for loyal gamers of the series who want more taste of this franchise.
