Guide to The Sims 2 on the PlayStation 2
The Sims 2 PS2 is the console version of the popular PC Game, and the sequel to the original classic. The Sims 2 adds a lot more to the mix than the first game – with a new story mode, more interactivity, more character development and customization, and more complex goals. The console version also has an updated direct-control system to make it more fun to play.
Sims 2 is a game where you get to control virtual characters, creating and steering their lives depending on your choice. The world of the Sims functions pretty much like our world – so there are basic needs you have to meet for your character (such as eating, sleeping, or similar needs.) But you also set goals for your character to achieve – be they goals of wealth or romance. You have to meet these complex needs too, and even take care of the broken appliances or the bills that keep coming in. As you progress, you can remodel and refurnish your home, buy better clothes etc. The Sims 2 is about living life without the fears and worries about real life.
The Playstation 2 version of the Sims 2 is slightly different to the PC version. The PC version included the ability of the Sims to age, die or to bring up children. This has been taken out of the console version to make it more fun and accessible. The Sims characters are able to be quite complex, however, and remember social interactions, which can change the way in which they interact. These have been added into the console version, as well as a new story mode and the ability for more interaction with your world like never before. For example, in the previous title certain items such as a fire-extinguisher were pretty useless. If there was a fire, you had to call the fire department. In the Sims 2 for PS2, all of these items and objects are fully interactive and usable – plus you can often combine and mix objects to create a new object. Many of these items then have new properties and can even affect the mood of your sim. It becomes a true virtual and interactive world.
Your Sims characters are also effected in other ways. They will often have dreams, have memories of previous interactions and relationships (good or bad) and these also can actually affect the mood of your character for the day – meaning that they interact with other characters differently. These different interactions have different relational consequences, and characters can even begin to hold grudges against each other.
You also have the option of fully customizing your clothing – giving you the freedom to dress and and come up with your own style and designs for your character. The Sims 2 PS2 version can be limitless fun. Ff you don't want to play the Story version, there is also the FreePlay version, which allows you to do pretty much anything at any time, lounge around for a few days or just party. Whatever you feel like. There is even the inclusion of aliens in The Sims 2 – an interesting (and rather funny) addition, in which you can use their technology for the betterment of everyone, or simply for your own personal enjoyment.
The graphics in the Sims 2 are a lot smoother than all the previous titles, with quirky and enjoyable music with great voicework. Although lacking in some respects to the PC version, the Sims 2 for Playstation 2 still offers the addictive gameplay that the Sims always offers, and comes off as a great game.
